Default Live in DC, work in Virginia, where to pay tax?

So I've researched that, the two "states" have a reciprocal in tax, where you only pay the tax in the state you live.

Anybody here doing that? Living in DC but the job is located in Virginia?

Then which income tax do you pay? Virginia's or DC's?

I'm fairly sure that you file in DC. It is probably the same as when I lived in VA but worked in MD. I filed taxes in VA. Now I live in MD but work in VA and file taxes in MD. You should verify this though by checking with both VA and DC.

You file by place of residency. If you maintained a residence in DC, you file in DC no matter where you worked or otherwise earned income. If you are exempt from filing a federal return, you may also be exempt from filing a DC return, but unless you move there, you will not owe tax in VA. Your VA employer will provide you with federal withholding forms and will ask which state withholding form you need.

Although there are reciprocity agreements in force in this area, be aware that there are some employers who cannot (or perhaps will not?) withhold out-of-state taxes. The University of Maryland system, for example, will not withhold Virginia state taxes; Virginia residents employed by U-Md must file quarterly estimated taxes.

Your income tax is likely to be higher in DC than VA.

DC:
Office of the Chief Financial Officer: Individual Income and Business Taxes

VA:
Virginia Department of Taxation
