Default Work in Springfield/Capitol Hill, where to live?

Hi, I'm interviewing for a job in Springfield. The job work require me to spend time interviewing subjects at federal offices and spend a good amount of time in Congressional hearings during sessions. Where should I live? Most people say DC but I'm having a hard time finding anything. Any help/areas to live/names of apartments would be hugely appreciated. FYI, my salary would be $50,000 and I'd be looking for a one bedroom.

THANKS!!!

Have you considered Arlington's Shirlington Area? It seems to be midway between both jobs.

I think that as long as you have easy access to DC as needed (by using public transportation or driving), you don't need to live in DC unless you really want to. You are likely to get a more affordable place in a safe neighborhood in VA rather than DC. Of course, the closer you are to a metro station (i.e., within a short walking distance), the higher your rent will be. You can always consider places on a bus line.

I'd say Shirlington (an area in Arlington, VA), Alexandria, or S. Arlington/Pentagon City/Crystal City. SW DC would also be convenient, but you have to be aware of exactly where you'll be living. Some blocks are nicer than others, and there's a lot of construction going on as well.

You'll be able to afford places in all of those areas, and they're all fairly in between Springfield and Capitol Hill. Public transportation is also available (buses and metrorail).
