Post DC area rentals

I have been offered a position working near the white house, but we have to be in DC by the first weekend of August! My wife and I are in our late 20's, no kids, and will be moving from San Antonio to DC in a couple of weeks and don't have a lot of time to find a home. We can afford up to $1,700 per month and would like to live in a townhome. My biggest concerns are the commute and finding a home in s safe area.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Does anybody know or have had experience with a good realtor and mover?

Thank you very much for any guidance.

nandout

craigslist is your best bet, in my opinion. When I moved here I used a moving pod, and that worked like a charm. If you are in the DC city-limit you'll need to get a permit to have it parked out front, but I didn't need one in Silver Spring, MD..whether that is the law or not I don't know.

$1700 is kind of low, it might be tough to find a safe place for that. Try craigslist, the Washington City Paper's online classifieds, and Realtor.com.

I just moved to the area and looked at ALOT of places!!! (40+) I had to also go up in rental price because we could not find a place to live. Craigs list is an okay site but I also used jenalpollard.com
I am trying to remember the other 2 that were helpful because they list a map and did pinpoints of the houses so that you could see where they are located. Herndon has some nicer homes but is further out. McLean is a nice area that is not far from the city. Since you are younger I would consider a townhouse or an apartment. (rentals.com was the one that helped out)
Good Luck to you.
