Exclamation Amtrak Acela Bullet Trains/Northeast Corridor.

Does any Washigton D.C. Northeast riders use the Acela Train? If so are they always on time? Thankyou for your interest.
Sam.

I used to ride the Acela every other week between DC and NY. Are they always on time? No. Sometimes yes, but I would say between DC and NY you are looking at a 5-15 minute possible delay probably 1/3 to 1/4 or the time.

It's not necessarily a problem with the Acelas but they share the track with regular Amtraks and commuter trains in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Any one of those trains getting slightly delayed has a knock-on effect to the whole corridor. If one of those trains hits someone or breaks down, then you can have a serious delay.

But generally it's pretty good.

I ride the train to and from New York. It's more reliably on time than the airplane and a lot more livable. I don't think the Acela is worth the price premium, it's only about 15 minutes longer on the regional Amtrak to New York and the cars on the Amtrak are clean and nice.

another plus is that you don't have to get to the train station more than 15 minutes before departure.

I'd agree. The time saved on Acela isn't really worth the price. I'd usually be going to/from either Philly or Newark, and the plain old Amtrak service is fine. Union Station to 30th Street on the Acela is 1:32 and $94. Regular Amtrak is 1:45 to 1:50 and $63. For 15 minutes, I'll keep the thirty bucks...
