Safety (neighborhood, restaurants, dangerous)

I plan to visit the Black Cat music club at 1811 14th Street NW in the evening. Shows usually start at 8:00 pm and end around midnight or later. Is it safe on the street outside the club at that time of night while going back to my car? Thanks.

In general yes, particularly since others will coming and going as well. That said, I'd be watchful about being alone on a dark side street late at night (and that's true pretty much anywhere in DC). But I've never heard of a patron being attacked after a show. There is some grim public housing on the 1400 block of R - I'm not sure I'd park right outside that complex.

It's a pretty hip, energized neighborhood with a lot of bars / restaurants - it's the one neighborhood in DC where I feel like I'm in New York because everything is pretty loca and isn't crammed right next to each other as they are in other hot night spots. As with any urban neighborhood, be aware, but it's certainly not a scary or dangerous area.

I've never felt unsafe around there. On the weekend especially there will be tons of people around.
