Does anyone know the driving situation from Baltimore to Arlington (Washington) in the morning? What's the best route and what's the best time to go?
I'd like to leave around 7:00 from Baltimore; is this the peak or just before peak commuting time?

Take 95 to the BW Parkway(or just take the BW Parkway) to DC 295 to Howard Rd exit. Turn left, then left again back onto 295 north. Take the next exit to 395. Follow 395 South. You can get to Arlington from 395. Where in Arlington will you be going to?

I sure hope you don't have to do that commute on a daily basis.

Not sure why you would choose to commute such a long distance. I used to live in Baltimore and one day I had an appointment in the Tysons Corner area (McLean, VA). I left at 7am and barely made my 9am appointment. 95 south is not a pleasant ride in the morning because many people commute from Laurel, Columbia and Baltimore. This traffic merges onto 495 which ALWAYS has a high volume of congestion.
Good luck with that.

I have a coworker that did this commute into DC but she used the Marc train which she preferred over driving. Arlington has quite a few metro stops so not sure why one would want to drive. I think driving was about 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours for her one way in the height of rush hour and could be worse on day where there was some accident on a major road or a lot of rain. A perfect no traffic day like a Federal holiday or a weekend would be about an hour. Our jobs have since moved to Ashburn, VA...talk about a hellish drive daily. Her partner worked in Bmore so she couldn't go too far away but relocated to Columbia which helped a little bit.

Well not all of Arlington is within walking distance of the metro. I work in Arlington but still drive because my commute would be longer once you factor in the bus from my apartment to the Vienna metro then the bus from the Ballston metro to Shirlington. I used to live 15 minutes from work but the house was a dump, upgraded to a nicer place but now my commute is 45. I couldn't imagine doing it from Baltimore. Someone actually offered me a free place to stay in exchange for chores in Columbia. I turned it down because of the commute. This was when gas $4 a gallon too I figured the money I'd save would go into gas since I drive an SUV.

Yeah why don't you move to DC or at least closer? The price difference in B'more will get eaten up in gas unless you drive like a Prius or something. I'm not trying to be ugly or nosy just wondering why Baltimore?
