Smile Mclean to D.C.???

Hi!
My husband and i will be moving to Virginia in January as he'll be taking an internship in downtown D.C. We are considering living in Mclean. We don't know much about the area and are wondering about the commute. Is Mclean a good idea? Long commute? Car? Bus? Metro? Any info anyone has would be very helpful! Thanks!

There is no Metro stop in McLean, though the East and West Falls Church stops are close by some McLean neighborhoods. There is limited parking at EFC, however.
Not sure about buses -- there are bus stops in McLean, but many of them are routed to Tyson's or the Metro stops. Most people who live in McLean and work in DC commute by car. It's a short hop down the GW Parkway and across one of the bridges, or 123 to the Chain Bridge. With no traffic, I could get downtown in 15 minutes from my house in McLean, but during rush hours it's closer to 30 or even 45 minutes on bad days, especially if there is a construction project on the GW Parkway.
