We had made plans to go and were going to stay with a friend in Silver Spring. He emailed us last week to see if we were still coming and if we'd heard some of the news reports. I got online and went to the Metro site and the Inauguration site. After reading all of this we decided it was best to stay home.
Knowing that they'll be closing the metro stations within 2 miles or so of the festivities and you'd have to walk at least 2 miles or probably more, and get there at the crack of dawn to get a spot.....not exactly my idea of fun, along with 3-4 million people, not to mention what the weather may be. The fact that they're recommending children and the elderly not come and to be prepared for a "crush" of people at the metro stations is like nothing I've ever heard before. I know this is one of The most historic days ever, but I've been at events with a million people and it was rough, but at least it didn't have the public transportation restrictions that this will. I wish all of those who are going a wonderful time and safe travels. We're still taking the day off to watch the festivities from home. Here's the links I found for anyone who wants to read them:

If you do decide to go, you might want to consider buying your metro card ahead of time at the previous link.
PS-There are places to stay listed on craigslist...for a kings ransom!
