I cant find apartments on craigslist, damn Inauguration rentals!!!
so craigslist is CRAMMED with inauguration rentals, which is totally effin' up my legitimate apartment search. im looking for a place TO LIVE IN not vacation in. Somewhere in the in the 20009-20011 areas does anyone else know a good online source for apartment rentals???
i liked craigslist because they have everything from big complexes to guest houses, it seems the rent.com kind of sites are just 100 unit buildings and that not exactly what im looking for. id like something a little less beehive like
thanks for the help

sorry, i have no grand suggestions - just posting for the sake of commisseration. i myself have been apt hunting too with no luck using cL. why it should be so difficult to post in the proper categories is, unfortunately, not a mystery though another sad testament of human nature indeed. cl has been the backbone of my community networking for years and those fools have ruined it, aleast for the time being.
are you located in the dc area? i'm going to do it the old fasion way - drive around and look for for rent signs. other than that, i suggest posting in the housing wanted section as i suspect landlords looking for long-term tenants may be having a hard time as well. good luck.

Commiserating here, too.
Found my last place about a year ago through "looking for housing" ad on CL. Got a lot of spammy responses from people who didn't really read my ad, though. My place been a decent setup. However, my place before that was also through CL and a complete nightmare... illegal basement unit in a home, didn't meet code in some ways, overpriced... but I was desperate and under deadline.
Frankly I'm kind of "off" CL in general. Too much flakiness on there for me, even before inauguration madness. People who change their minds about stuff or don't call back, homeowners who are delusional about units that are inadequate in major ways, etc. I'm back to the conventional ways--smaller local newspapers, identifying buildings I might want to live in. I don't want a basement (again) and I'm becoming resigned to a larger building as long as it is well managed and located.

You can try some realtor sites, like Long & Foster, Chatel, or Weichert

I hear you too...I lucked out by calling friends and putting the word out. Good luck!
I'm moving from LA too and can't wait! However, really stressed out about coordinating a move and have had no luck sharing a truck/expenses with anyone...are you moving in the next few weeks perchance?
Anyway, good luck. I've also tried using the off-campus housing offices for Georgetown, GW, SAIS, and, Washington Blade and the City Paper.

use a search trick... put a: "-inauguration" in the search form or "-_________" and it should filter out anything with that word.
