Sales background for me, government background for friend. Swimming yesterday, we got into an in-depth conversation as to whether there are jobs in the DC/Va/Md region for jobs for the over 65 year old group. Does anyone know?
After looking at the numbers of over 65 year olds in the area, seems to me they all leave the area; but, who knows? I could be wrong, and my friend could be right about this one. Anyway, told her I would ask the pros on this board.
I can't answer for here, but my father works for the country club that my family are members of. He does stuff on the country club board of directors etc. But, I think you run into problems with taxes/medicare (something) if you make over so much a year after retirement age. My father was asked to teach at the local university, but I think the salary messed something up dealing with the stuff I mentioned above. At the same time, I know numerous professors that are over the age of 65.
I think you can be a professor until you can't stand at the podium anymore according to a friend who is one I have. Great job, but neither of us have that background.
Maybe I can find out the answer we are looking for on the net thru Washington Post classifieds. I'll look today.
my dad was also offered a job at the local golf shop and was offered a job with the American League hockey Team. But, again, he ran into that issue with the salary..
I did just pull up the AARP site regarding jobs. You can pull up the city you are interested in and see how many sales jobs, for instance, there are. Lots of grocery stores, at least, want the over 65 people. Not my cup of tea, but...if worse came to worse and to fill time....maybe.
Anyway, thanks for the help and encouragement. I don't think DC is a bad area for us geezers now, but have more homework to do.
