I suppose I could look it up, but why on God's Green Earth would Canada have a different passport photo protocol than the United States? What are the differences? Inquiring minds want to know!

The size is a little larger than the US passport and there should not be any shadows or glares on the photo. Also the person photographed should have their hair off their face (tied up or tucked behind their ears) and should not be wearing accessories like necklaces or ear-rings, etc. (my cousin is a Canadian immigrant, he's my source of info)

From what I've heard, the photos are used with biometric technology and they are compared to a database of criminal photos.

Hi,

Yes specification is quite different than US spec.
It has a peculiar 1 3/8" X 1 3/4" finished size (nice to know for general knowledge isn't it? )
and yes, of course, there should not be any glare or shadow in the photo and hair should be out from your face. But I am not sure about the accessories though.

Thanks,
Deb

A Canadian requirement is the photo size. Walgreens only does it in the U.S. format. Also, they are suppose to date and say who did the photo (on one) which they didn't in my case. My application was reject due to this.
I looked around and Sears will make them, four, but you have to cut them. After that they will sign off who took the photo, company and date it. Remember to leave room on there for you guarator to sign off.
Later, Don.

The size is different

I just did mine. U.S. is 2X2". Canadian is 2x2 3/4".

Also keep in mind a new Canadian passport photo specification is that you're not supposed to smile. Your appearance should be "neutral."
