Default Living in DC for single prof late 20s

I might transfer to the area (from San Diego). I'd be working at andrews airforce base. I don't know anyone in the area. I don't mind commuting, but I don't want to be stuck driving for too long. Any ideas as far as a good place to live for a single female prof? I'd like somewhere safe, where I can go running and be outside, somewhere with people my age, etc?

Just search this forum (and the Maryland) forum for the word 'Andrews'. You'll find we get asked this specific question nearly every few weeks.

If you're interested in DC, try looking at Capitol Hill. It's a nice area, and not too bad of a commute for Andrews.

First, be prepared for a difference in weather from SD. DC is a great place to live, but the winters will be dramatic to someone from SoCal. Now if you were living in New England or Chicago before SD, then our winters will be temperate.

The area around Andrews is pretty bad. Prince George's County as a whole is not the most revered area in the DC area. Sometimes the crime rates go higher than those inside the District itself! You could live on base maybe, otherwise, Capitol Hill could be a good suggestion for you. It has tons of restaurants, people run (albeit the police presence is more noticeable than in Arlington, VA), etc.

Good luck to you and welcome to DC!
