I and currently running a non-profit organisation in the UK. We are opening a US office in Washington DC. I never been to the US, so need some help about areas suitable to buy a live and work unit, with the following in mind:
an urban area;
near the metro station;
cosmopolitan environment;
price wise it shall be about middle;
convenient access to international airport;
a concentration of non-profits would be a advantage;
we will mainly using direct mail and other direct marketing, so such businesses locally would be useful.
There are quite a few in the Dupont area. It's pricey, though. As for access to an international airport - Dulles is a pain to get to from an area with metro access (until they finish building the silver line, which is a few years away still). Reagan is a decent airport and has metro access, but is more limited.
Other areas to look into include Downtown/Chinatown, Foggy Bottom, and anywhere in the NW quadrant of the city. Arlington is another good option.
