I am moving next month to look for a job. I have been flying back and forth since Feb for interviews. Nothing yet....

I might add...I am looking for a health policy or healthcare consulting job

What kind of work? What's your background? Do you have a degree? In what?

I've got a few connections in the area and I'm sure some others here do, too. But we need to know a little more. If you're looking to flip burgers, I'm afraid I can't help you.

I graduated from a top 5 liberal arts college with a degree in political science. Also, I have over 2 years of work experience doing health research at UCLA.

Good luck!! I used to live and work in the DC area and had a number of Capitol Hill and public policy jobs, including in health care, but now (living in Las Vegas), I am finding it super hard to move back.

The job market is really bad if you're trying to break in. Because of the collapse of the financial sector, the DC job market has been flooded with thousands of resumes and job seekers who otherwise would be looking elsewhere. It's mayhem.

Did you do clinical / scientific research, or health care admin research?

The Obama Administration has a big program being launched now to implement health care IT across the entire US system. They've set up an office with its own website...

I'm in the same boat. I've gotten lots of help with this forum but it's still been really hard. I have nothing yet. You just got to keep trying.

I would do a few things:

1) Get a cheap pay-as-you-go cellphone with a 202 area code phone number. I hear you get more calls from job prospects if you "appear" here. Maybe even get a PO box address to stick on top of your resume.

2) Look into staffing agencies. Might not be a job you want to do forever, but it could be a way to get your foot inside an office inside the Beltway. Check out the staffing agency finder on the website of the American Staffing Association, which happens to be based in Alexandria, VA

Last but not least, I'm so jealous of you if you are coming here from Westwood. Come wintertime, you will miss the palm trees, sidewalk cafes and rides on the Big Blue Bus to Santa Monica!

Good luck to you.

All federal job prospects should check out FederalSoup.com - A place to share, debate and discuss. if you haven't already.

It was a great help to me when I was looking for a federal position.
