My family and I are planning a trip to DC this summer. We want to stay outside of the city to avoid high hotel rates. It doesn't matter how far out of the city we are as long as there is a metro stop close to the hotel. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have been looking on line but it appears that "close to metro stop" isn't an option for search engines. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thank you

Silver Spring, MD would be my suggestion. Redline is right there, as are things to do for a family - movies, shopping, outdoor festivals, and NOAA is there too. I am not sure if they have any kind of tour thing going on tho.

Other than doing a search with the address of each metro station, it is kind of hard to find locations within walking distance of metro stations online.

If you search for the Crystal City neighborhood of Arlington, there is a large concentration of hotels (they are basically the Reagan National airport hotels) near the Crystal City metro station. Just search for hotels near the DCA airport code.

Also, many hotels within a few miles of a metro offer free shuttle service to the nearest metro. I often get a better rate from these hotels than the ones in Crystal City.
