I've never ridden the green line, but are those saying it feels sketch in some places saying it's like what deanwood and minnesota ave. feel like? I'm a orange line-er and at those 2 stops, sometimes I feel a little, um, uncomfortable. Never physically threatened though.
There was this time I was coming home really late...2 am prolly...and i accidentally got on the blue line instead of orange and then got off at cap heights for some reason...very shady at that time. Those 20 min waiting for the next train felt pretty long.
Point is, there are times and places where I would say it's not exactly "safe" to be by yourself on the metro or in certain stations. Also, I really didnt want to bring race into this, but i wouldn't feel safe as a skinny white guy by myself at certain stops at certain times. Sorry guys.

No need to be sorry. I grew up in the Minnesota Avenue area in the 70's. It was rough then and still is.

I don't get it either. I guess if you don't ride through these areas on a regular you wouldn't have any idea just how unsafe it can be.

I have been riding the Metro for years and years and I have never felt unsafe when the Metro passes through rough areas. This is one of the most ridiculous threads every created. The worst thing I have seen on the train are Wilson (Tenleytown) students beating up some kids from Duke Ellington. I think a lot of your fears are very stereotypical at the most. The Metro is very very safe and to project this type of rash generalizations is very misleading. I am guessing that many of you rarely ride the train on a daily basis to make such assinine assumptions. Really, thousands upon thousands of hard working people, students, and tourist ride the green line everyday to the end of the line (Greenbelt and Branch Ave). Whites, Blacks, Hispanic and Asian. By the way, the Green line also goes under St. Elizabeth's Hospital. Are you worried?

I think I read somewhere that 80% of Metro riders have a 4-year degree. 50% of MetroBus riders have one.

No I aint worried, are you?
I'm not basing my fears on stereotypes either. I just posted what I witnessed. Prior to that I had NO fears. I started riding the train when the green line was just a thought. It wasn't even on the map yet.
I only posted that one incident because yes, it scared the hell out of me. I've grown up in Benning, River Terrace, and Palmer Park. So really, there aint too much out there that I'm afraid of. My only reason for responding is to just warn others who may not be so street tough to be on the alert when riding through that area. That is all.
