Green Line Safety
Am curious if metro green line is safe to use during weekday commuting periods from southern maryland end-of-line to other metro transfer points? Recently relocated here and am in temporary living arrangements -- so commute will change, but looking for advice for the short-term.

Definitely not safe. Too many office workers, tourist and students are riding it. Be afraid!

Haha ^^
Yes, it's fine. I used it from Naylor Road several times.

Green Line Metro from Southern MD is safe. I ride from the College Park station all the way south to the Navy Yard station as part of my daily commute. No worries at all.

My worst experience on the green line has been from rowdy students that get on/off somewhere between Anacostia and Congress Heights. But aside from disturbing the peace, they don't really bother anyone.

What about on the weekends? Want to go to Artomatic, but concerned about leaving at night and waiting for a train at Navy Yard stop. Single female.

Artomatic is right above the metro. This area has cleaned up as the stadium has opened and the new condos/apartments have been built. Some scuzzy area remain several blocks away, but these hopefully will go away soon.
God bless gentrification.

I won't say whether it's "safe" or not since I don't ride regularly (I usually ride the Red Line and the other end of the Green Line), but if I had to say which part of the Metro system was least safe I would say it would be down that side. I've only taken it that side to the Airshow twice and each time I didn't get the feeling it was the safest place. Granted the area, particularly near the Maryland stations, looks okay especially near branch ave and suitland but the SE DC section is questionable.

I will not ride this train in the late evening ever again without some form of protection. The kids from Congress Heights/Anacostia are just too much. I wonder how much Metro does to protect people from being victims of juvenile crime. I think if I had not been sitting there with my street look on my face, these kids were going to rob someone and run off the train.
