Default Apartments in and around Arlington

I will be working in Crystal City in a few months and was looking for tips on a good place to live. I have found some one bedroom apartments in the $1400-1500 range in Crystal City, but I would prefer to pay less. I am looking for suggestions for apartments further out along the metro such as in Alexandria. I would prefer that the metro or a metrobus be within walking distance.

Not sure how far out you want to go but there is an Archstone apartment complex within walking distance to the Franconia Springfield metro. Crystal City is about 20 minutes on the blue line from there.

If I were commuting south into Maryland (301), but wanted to live inside the beltway. What's a good location? I'm single and would want to live where there are things to do- like Arlington or Alexandria. Any ideas?

Alexandria near Old Town, since it would be easier for you to get across the river on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Another option would be to live in DC in Capitol Hill or something. There are roads down there that can easily get you into southern Maryland.
