Colombians in DC area
My wife is from Colombia and we may be relocating to D.C.
Looking for neighborhoods where more folks from her country live, also restaurants, etc.
Does D.C. metro have a "Little Colombia" area like NYC does?
I did some research and saw that Fairfax and Montgomery counties would work, but couldn't find anything more specific than that.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm not aware of a "Little Colombia", but I know there is a sizeable population of people who hail from that country in Montgomery County, namely Rockville, Gaithersburg, Germantown and other areas. An uncle of mine who used to live in in Olney had three Colombian families as neighbors.

I'd imagine something around the Wheaton Metro but I've only known one Colombian here and she was on a student visa.

Are these suburbs or rural? How safe?

There is very little rural within 20 miles of DC. Most of the suburbs are pretty built up 'inside the beltway' and even outside as well.
As for your specific, there are Colombians here, but I think the dominant nationality of Latin Americans is El Salvadorans followed by Bolivians. I think they are 1-2 in the DC area, but am not sure.
This might seem silly but you should just call the Embassy and talk to the person on the phone. Explain your situation and not take up much of their time, but just ask them for a few suggestions on what neighborhoods or cities they would recommend.

From this list it looks like Quantico, Va is the nearest area with a significant Columbian community http://www.city-data.com/top2/h155.html That's probably a bit far for a commute to work in DC but could work for weekend hops down that way.
I second the idea that there is a large Salvadorean community - and plenty of yummy restaurants. The next largest South American population in the area, though, is probably Ecuadorian - just a guess. The Arlington neighborhood around Columbia Pike (coincidence with the name) has a whole string of restaurants and little groceries with food from central and south america. Good luck!

I appreciate the response, but if you look at the numbers, 3.6% of Quantico's population would equal 20 Colombians.
lol I don't think that will make her happy.
