Grateful Dead (the drink)
My favorite drink in the whole world is a grateful dead. Most of you probably have never heard of it neither have any DC bartenders. They have them at most places back home in Columbus, GA. But they don't have any in DC it seems. Has anyone ever had one of these drinks in DC or NoVA? If so where? Or is it forever going to be a Georgia treat?

The Greatful Dead is a pretty widely accepted drink. If I recall correctly, a Greatful Dead equal parts Vodka, Gin, Raspberry Liqueur, Tequila, and Light Rum over ice. Tell your bartender what you want and I'm sure they'll make it for you.

No that's what I'm saying. NOBODY in DC has made me a grateful dead and I've asked countless times. Where is it widely accepted? Please give me a name of a place even if it's out of the way I'll make a special trip there. I have yet to meet a bartender in the DC area that has even heard of a grateful dead.

I don't know about DC, but you said you could get them in Georgia and I've had one in Louisiana. That means it's not just a local thing to GA.
Just tell the barkeep what you want in a glass, and unless they're an ******* they'll make it for you. Webtender and such sites should have the recipe if you're not sure. Very few bartenders know how to make a "Walk with Jesus" but I've gotten them at bars anyhow - you just tell them what's in it and let them make it. Make sure you tip well, of course.

Well I went to a bar across from the Spy museum attached to the Marriott. Forget the name. I did indeed have a Grateful Dead in DC. It didn't taste good to be honest, but it was a good start.

I work in a bar and I've never even heard of it. No dead head in his right mind would drink that disgusting concoction.

Huh? It's not a disgusting concoction it's basically a fruity long island. I realize that it's a regional drink I'm just hoping to run into more bartenders in DC that maybe lived down south or something.

Really? Then what's up with DC being devoid of them? Like I said I know that I will find that great Grateful Dead. Saturday was a start. Like I said they served it to me but it just wasn't very good. The best one I had was at TGI Fridays back home but it didn't have a lot of alcohol in it for my taste but it was tasty. That's the point a sweet tasty drink that's still strong.

Never heard of it and I like both the Dead and to drink.
Nonetheless, describe it and they will make it for you. You have an opportunity to become a trendsetter here. Make the most of it.
Never replace the Mai Tai though. Bottoms up.
