Bloomingdale is a whole different ball game. It's long been a stable middle and upper-middle class neigborhood that somehow escaped almost all of the tumult and decay that overcame many nearby areas. It's not exactly posh. More of a meat & potatoes kind of area, and certainly much removed from the action of downtown in comparison to Penn Quarter. Not the greatest Metro access, but very much worth a look anyway...

Thanks for the heads up about Penn Quarter, and the info about Bloomingdale. It looked to be residential, but with a more hippie/artist vibe, what with the farmer's market and coffee shop. I am going to be up there in a few weeks to get a sense of the neighborhoods of Capitol Hill, Columbia Heights, Bloomingdale, and Penn to see what we think, and get a scope of rough areas.
