Default Question regarding rentals

I've noticed in my hometown (not in D.C.) that many landlords will post signs on their property instead of listing in craigslist or local papers. In fact...in my experience driving around neighborhoods and looking for those "For Rent" signs is the best way.

For those of you who live in D.C. have you noticed this too?

I'm trying to determine the best way to locate a rental in D.C.

Thanks in advance!

I've mostly used to CraigsList, since I didn't have the time to go wandering around a neighborhood. However, my friend came out here for a weekend before she moved and just walked around looking for "For Rent" signs and got a decent place. She actually just got a new place in Adams Morgan/Dupont that way. If you have the time, it's not a bad idea, especially for the buildings in more desirable areas since the apartments go very quickly.

You can also try checking out realtor's websites for rentals. I looked at Long & Foster and McEnearney.

Thank you, juniperblue!

I thought it might be a good idea to scour the neighborhoods for those "For Rent" signs. I also appreciate the realtor's websites!
