Default U Street

I just closed on a place near 9th and W st (basically east end of U street corridor) with Shaw/Howard University about 3 blocks east of me. The area is really in transition and of all the tenants and residents that I've talked to they haven't had any issues. Like anyone on this board, have to be aware of your surroundings and smart (not going for a run at 2am).

Specifically, I'm moving into the Rhapsody condos. It's about a 5 minute walk to U street and I'm hoping in the next 5-10 years the "gentrification" that has happened to the west will continue to the east. There is alot of talk about a shopping center being built in or near Howard U (I'm sure this talk has been going on for years) but there is definitely development happening.

Good luck.

I also really think I would love Eastern Market!
You probably would! Its a great convenience to have nearby and I love buying crazy different kinds of sausages. Depending on how tolerant you are of non-picket fences you should definitely also check out the DC Farmers Market which is located near the Wholesale District on the corner of 6th and Florida NE. Its got a ton of great stuff similar to what you might find at Eastern Market but really really cheap! Less of the artsy stuff but a ton of fresh food and cheap other stuff. Also the best strawberry banana smoothee I've ever had.

Have you checked out SWDC? It's not as exciting as the areas you mentioned but you could propbably get a nicer place for $1600 than in most of the areas you listed. You should check out 1001atwaterfront.com or myviewoverdc.com Both are right next to the metro and the new waterfront development. Let me know if you have any questions on the area...
