I'd prefer DC too, but Bethesda has really blown up over the last few years. We met some friends there for dinner a month ago and I couldn't believe the amount of development that has taken place. More to come as well...

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your replies! Apologising for not getting back to you: Life has been pretty hectic and involved moving back to the continent, holidays throughout Spain to finish with first part of new job here in Paris.

Bethesda seems to be a good idea. Just need to look into it a little bit more now.

Question: What can I get for around $1000 a month on the basis of a flatshare in both Bethesda and around dupond Circle?

Thanks,

Vincent

$1,000 will get you a very nice share in a townhouse or flat (we call them "apartments" or "condos") in either neighborhood. Check craigslist.com

You may find it very difficult to coordinate an apartment rental or find roomates using craigslist out of the country. There are sooo many scams on craigslist and almost everyone will steer clear of someone "overseas" (I think it's even posted on craiglist not to deal with overseas transactions). I'm having a hard time and I'm just 4 hours away! You may have better luck going through a realtor or something, perhaps someone else can chime in. Or even better, if you can live temporarily at a Holiday Inn Extended Stay, you'll have the ability to see these places and people in person when you get over here.
