I REALLY need a small mover company! Help!
So I've found a lovely little apartment. After bugging people on this forum I was successful in locating a place that had everything I needed and just about everything I wanted. Now I have to get in there!
I am moving from Fairfax VA into NW DC. The only things that I need a mover for are my bed (to include boxspring and frame- the metal frame), a small file cabinet and some boxes (around 5 is my guess). That's it!
I can't help with this because I recently got out of the hospital and can't lift. I have an SUV, but the bed won't fit and I can't get the boxes down a flight of stairs and in the truck myself. I have family to help, but no one has a vehicle to fit the bed, and some of the boxes are heavy, plus it's rather hot out here!
So there's the problem. There will need to be at least two people to do the moving, but since it's such a small move (coupled with the fact that it's from Fairfax to DC) doesn't seem like anyone wants to do it. I also need this to occur from Sept 4-6, which would be labor day weekend, but I'm thinking with such a small move, this wouldn't be a grave inconvenience.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Referrals?
Thanks!

I used Safeway Van Lines to move from Alexandria to SW DC last year. I found them to be pretty reasonable, and they have an estimate form on their website. After hiring them I found other websites labelling it as a scam, but we had no problems.
For us, they moved 2 beds (including mattresses and box springs), large and heavy entertainment unit, sofa, easy chair, dining room table, big TV, 2 desks, and 2 dressers. We did all the boxes, chairs, coffee table, and end tables ourselves. They were decent, wrapped everything up in blankets and tape that they brought, and disassembled/reassembled where needed.
I also remember something about being able to rent a U-Haul and also some people to help you out (by hour). I didn't do it, but it was an option that I considered.

Look for pod based shipping companies. They drop a varying sized shipping crate at your current location, drive it to your new location, and then even hold onto the pod for x amount of time at the new location until you're ready to retrieve your belongings from it. I have a friend that is moving across country to the DC area that informed me about these services and they sound pretty impressive.

A friend turned me on to this site
uShip - The Online Shipping Marketplace - Ship Freight, Furniture, Vehicles or Moves
basically you tell them what you are moving and from where and people/companies bid on YOU, and you can pick who to use. It's a great site. Good luck.
