Default Wheelchair-bound M.D. working at Walter Reed for 1 mo.-where to live?

My husband, who is wheelchair-bound, and I are looking for a short term rental in or around D.C. We are desparately looking for a wheelchair accessible apt. or condo for the month of Sept. We are planning to drive everyday to Walter Reed for work, but we would still like to be close to a Metro station to explore the city. Any ideas for relatively-safe neighborhoods with some wheelchair accessible condo/apt. options?

I have inquired about an accessible rental on 1125 12 St. NW, but don't know anything about the area.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
