Default CPA candiate salary expectations

Hello everybody

I am getting close to finishing grad school and desperately want a change of air. I have visited DC before and I loved its walkability, cosmopolitan vibe, abboundance of young professionals etc. In other words, I loved most of the positives. I did not spend enough time to gain exposure to its negative sides. I plan on going on a road trip for some more extensive observation.

Meanwhile, I have been looking on craigslist for vacant positions. Just to get an idea since I am not ready to move. I have a Bachelors in Finance (pretty useless nowdays, I know) and will soon have a Masters in accounting. I will be eligible to sit for the CPA exam and begin the process. From what I see on craigslist, there are jobs out there but most require that candidates already hold the certification.

There are people of different backgrounds in this forum. Those of you who work in the finance/accounting. Realistically, how easy (or hard) is it to find a job? My academic credentials are not stellar (grad GPA 3.3) and my work history is not relevant to the industry. I think I make up for it with honesty and a dedication to learning.
And what about salaries. What can I expect to make as an accountant? And one certified, how much does a CPA make there on average?

I thank all of you in advance.

Well, i'm not sure just how much you'll be making per say, but my friend's sister works as a CPA in Alexandria, and she makes about $50k. She too has a Masters in Accountancy.

I'd be happy with that but I still haven't passed any of the exams so chances are that I would be looking at something substantially lower.

Thanks for your input
