We used to take school field trips to the White House when I was in elementary (70's). Everything changed in 1993. Traffic downtown was re-routed and all because of the World Trade Center bombing.

Default Canadian also interested in touring White House

Redrum,

Did you figure out how to get a tour? Ironically, I'm also Canadian, an going to Washington in May/June and am interested in touring the White House. I was there in February and other Canadians I met who had done the tour said they contacted the Embassy well in advance. I just did this, and am waiting to hear a reply. You could try this, unless you know of a better way? Can you let me know?

Thanks!

Correct. I went in the late 1970s and it was just like going to any old museum. The place was quite shabby, probably courtesy of J. Carter. I wouldn't waste my time, especially since they make it painful these days.

^me too... and the capitol was on every VA elem. field trip itenerary!

There are 2 tours you can take... the "public rooms" green room, blue room etc... and the West Wing tour.
Having done both...I recommend the West Wing tour. You get inside the new press room, see the conference room, see the oval office and walk out and tour the rose garden etc...
