At least it's for a shorter time period this year!
Yup, read about it this morning and just came out of the shower smelling like a pool. Oh well, my skin's been acting up from stress so maybe this will help...

As far as "chicken little", if anyone's guilty of that it would be me (I started the thread last year). I had lived in DC for a year, but didn't remember it smelling quite as strong until last year and found it odd.

I live in Anacostia and I've always smelled it since about early-mid 2009. It's discouraged for human beings to ingest the tap water, and recommended to drink bottled water. It's so bad here that I can't even wash my hair in the shower without my nose beginning to run to flush all of that poisonous, toxic crap out of my nose, then I start to sneeze and have to blow my nose for about 15 minutes afterward. The water literally makes you sick for about half an hour. Not only does it strongly smell like chlorine, but it has a distinct taste of it, and likely more than necessary. No doubt in my mind that it's unhealthy. There's no use in reporting or consulting the CDC, as they continue to lie about the horrid quality of water as they've been caught lying about it before, particularly in this part of the city.

My 71 year-old mother can't even drink the water without becoming ill. It's really a shame that the tap water in the nation's capital is not only nonpotable, but also overly infused with toxic chemicals humans are not meant to ingest. Most people use filters as a convenience or luxury; we need them because the water here is simply sickening.

A couple of years ago it was something new. The water people discovered bacteria that their standard treatment didn't kill, so the started using chlorine for several weeks a year to fix the problem. That started our lead problems. The issue got complicated and became newsworthy. Now it's just a right of spring -- several weeks of high chlorine content in the water.
