By 2050 this city'll be dumb...how can and why would u want to live in a city thats only 68.3 square miles with a high ass poplutaion??? What city would u want to go to where there is only buildins an stores? People call that a dc vision? Cities besides new york where meant to have different areas with different personalities...a city thats overcrowded with all buildins and TERRIBLE TRANSIT AN TRAFFIC(since of course almost all low income housing and local schools would be gone and people with money would rather take the metro or drive) would be jive stupid/retarded...if u didnt notice over the past years traffic an metro has gotten a lot worster...i wonder y? lls

The answer is: definitely growing. That includes the city and the metro area, separately and combined.
And a good deal of that growth is going to be spurred directly or indirectly by the federal government, like it or not.

You can't beat the NYC subway for mobility, but as far as mile-for-mile quality, I agree (despite some of the potential cuts).

Pretty soon Metro wll be the most expensive urban transit system in the country, and for what? 103 miles of track and 86 stations that constantly have broken escalators/elevators, delays, trains equipment that always fails (I've been on over 100 metro trains that have malfunctioned in a 4-5 year span, maybe I'm unlucky but never the less WMATA has issues.
The cost of living is DC is very high, it may even surpass NYC soon, maybe. But to me it not worth it, DC is only what, 68.3 square miles of nothing to do, well there is but nothing that catches my attention or compares to NYC, I would say NYC is the only city in the country thats worth the money to live in.
I am very curious about how will DC's population dip under 500K, maybe Baltimore will make a strong comeback veer people away from DC, maybe Fairfax County will become a major city and will become bigger than DC, given a lot of DC's population will go to VA. Who knows.

I strongly agree with you. I'm actually planning on moving to Atlanta this year...I've been here about 7 years and the quickly climbing rental prices are moving me out as well as the unreliable metro system. I can't afford a car(due to rent ) nor find ANY parking in this tiny city so at least in another city I can afford a car with easy parking. With metro, which I take everyday, there is severe overcrowding over the years...and not even regular rush hour crowding like there was when I first got here...but crowding where sometimes I'll just skip a train so i won't be crushed near anyone else or if an accident happens (which lately is more common) at least I won't be struggling for air. Delays with the Bus system AND metro are a growing concern as I'm always late for work as well and they're always raising fare prices...
DC prices simply do not outweigh the fact that living here is not worth paying $1000+ a month for a decent 1 bedroom with little parking options and hence why so many people live outside of the area now and only come here to work.

He was mocking the spelling of the previous poster. But, one must ask, have you ever been on subways in other cities? I'm not sure what you expect Metro to be that no other transit system in the world is. Perhaps a reclinable seat for every passenger?

I take the bus up sixteenth street and using NextBus almost always get the express and never wait more than a couple of minutes.
