I was with progressive and just switched to geico. Your best bet is to check rates online unless you want to talk to someone over the phone. Geico, progressive, liberty mutual, state farm, all state...they all serve the DC area.
I intended my response to this thread in the jocular "hey, I'm referencing the inane geico commercials" kind of way. As in, I could have made a caveman joke, for example. For this, I got a stern warning from the admin about not following the forum's rules.
Really and truly its best to shop around. What works for one doesn't work for everyone. For me Geico offered the lowest rates. While others will swear by State Farm. State Farm quoted the most expensive rates more than double Geico. So really I say take some time and shop around versus taking someone's word for it. Also keep in mind that location will play a factor. I live in Arlington and my insurance went up $60 for 6 months when I moved inside the beltway from Oakton. If and when I decide to move into the city my insurance will instantly double despite the fact that it would be a move less than 5 miles to the east.
