The old Chinatown followed the same diagram, minus tourists and money part.

...and anything to do, and any place to eat, and any reason to be there whatsoever (other than to score a hit or a prostitute).
Otherwise, it's practically identical!

I don't get you. You say it's practically identical to how it was years ago when it was a slum, yet you say you have no idea what I'm talking about whenever I mention the hood rats that hassle people there and make life hard for people trying to mind their own business.

Have you personally witnessed these human beings you naively describe as "hood rats" hassling people on more than 1 or 2 ioslated occasions? Do you have statistics to support your claims? The highest rate of petty crime, at least recently, was Dupont Circle, which is certainly not populated by any of these rats you describe.
You already said you've never been harassed, and no one else here has ever witnessed anyone being harassed. One would think that if this were a common occurrence a reputation would have developed by now and the tourists would hole up in their hotels.
But, they don't. I really think you're just being racist and perhaps don't realize it or are trying to sugar coat the bigotry.

Perhaps you could describe what these "hoodlums" look like. I really haven't seen it, and your logic has no basis. The National Mall, which attracts 20 million tourists, isn't populated by "hoodlums" or excessive crime.
And just so we're clear - gatherings of black people in a public space does not equal "hoodlums". One need only spend time on U Street to know that.

Actually there are a few people on here that have already said they don't feel too comfortable being there for those very reasons. And yes I have seen many times punk kids harrassing people and a few friends have reported snatch and grabs in yes...Chinatown. I have never been a victim of a crime there because A) I don't go there everyday B) When I do, Im aware of my surroundings and carry my phone out for all to see. Also where is the National Mall coming into this? Did I ever even bring that area up? And you can't tell me you havent noticed the Metro entrances crowded with loud kids.Seriously? Heres a nice article on the area. And yes I know crime happenings everywhere, thats not the point of this thread tho.

Also the Washington Post seems to not agree with you. As you can see, Chinatown has a much higher crime rate than Dupont Circle. Crime in Chinatown is actually 319% higher than the national average, as opposed to 75% for Dupont Circle.

wouldn't have really mattered if there were cops around to make arrests at the scene of that beating. The kids would get a slap on the wrist, maybe some "rehabilitation courses" and then be set loose to keep doing the only thing they know how to do.
For all its flaws, we ought to take a few notes on how the Chinese run things in their country. Namely how they deal with criminals.

That would lead to communism. I'd say we look at Canada, since cities up there seem to have low crime.

Friday nights in Georgetown use to resemble Chinatown back in the day. Kids from all over the place would crowd the area but there wasn't any major disturbances. I go to Asian Spice at 8th & H next to Matchbox. I don't mind the kids. They are just hanging out plus there is a heavy police presence always in front of Clydes.
As always, some people use extreme measures with racial hints to describe certain neighborhoods. It's a trap. Especially the dumb comments about the Verizon Center.
