Is the Georgia Ave/Petworth Metro Area Safe...? (crime, neighborhoods)

So, I MAY be moving near the Georgia Ave/Petworth Metro area in the next couple of weeks.

I'll be living near Otis Place NW and 10th Street.

I've researched the area a bit and it seems to be an up and coming area where young professionals like myself are moving.

My question is if it's safe.

I'm confused because some sources claim that the Georgia Ave/Petworth area is full of gangs and crime while others say it's not that way anymore.

I have lived in Petworth just up the road from the Metro for 2 years and like the area. No issues and don't see "gangs" roaming the streets or any other nonsense like that. You can also compare crime reports of various neighborhoods in the city to get a feel of the level of crime vs. other neighborhoods deemed "safe".

It mainly boils down to whether you feel comfortable in an area where people hang out on the street. I walked up 10th street a few weeks ago and it seemed very quiet.
