I responded at your other thread - this is a much better choice.

That's a great location. Go for it.

your information has been so helpful and I was hoping someone could help me as well. I have booked the
Comfort Inn
2480 South Glebe Rd.
Arlington, VA, US, 22206

It is right off of 395 across from the Army navy counry club so I was thinking that it "should" be a nice area but now I am wondering since I got it at such a great rate.

Any opinion would be greatly appreciated. We are leaving on August 5th to head that way.
Thank you in advance.

If you had gotten the Rossyln location, you could have walked to a subway station to go into the city, walked across the Key Bridge to Georgetown, and had a variety of places to see or eat at in that part of Arlington.

Unfortunately, the location you chose on Glebe Rd isn't around anything you'd want to walk to. If you'll have a car, then it's ok because there are plenty of things within a short drive. You'll be able to get into DC or Old Town Alexandria easily by car.

It's not a bad area but not a good area in terms of pleasant surroundings or things to see or do in the immediate vicinity. The surroundings are mostly apartments, gas stations, a Pizza Hut, and a 7-11.

As far as safety, it's right on a major commuter road right next to a freeway, so there isn't a lot of foot traffic there. It is also near the Nauck neighborhood, which is a lower-class section of Arlington that has its share of crime, but isn't nearly as risky as where you were looking in DC. That DC area is one part of the city that I've seen with by-the-hour motels, and you don't want to be around that.

Ah, I see now my response was to someone other than the original poster, who apparently DID get the Rosslyn hotel. Still, my comments on the Glebe Road hotel still stand.

I don't know if you've already been to DC or not, but my family stayed here when we visited DC 4 years ago. Thereis a CVS and McDonald's on the same block. We felt safe and it was very, very close to the Smithsonian. We were also close to the Metro station but were mostly able to walk everywhere. One morning we were late getting to an appointment we had and took a taxi for a very reasonable price.

I would not recommend walking around DC once it gets dark. I hear there are people looking to commit crimes no tourists.

Enjoy your vacation!
