I have lived here about 3 months. In my experience, already, Comcast is the worst company ever. I moved into an apartment after the girl whose name was on the Comcast bill moved out. I tried to have the account transferred to me -- they refused. I tried to order the same package -- they told me I wasn't authorized to know what the previous girl had. So I asked for the fastest standalone internet package they have. It is this slow 48 mbps piece of ****. Chat in Gmail can't even load this is so slow. Everything takes forever.

How else can I get fast cable internet? Comcast wants me to buy premium cable TV and **** to get decent internet. It's bull****. What other providers are there?

BTW, what speed wireless signal do you get? How much do you pay?

Go to dslreports.com and do a speed test to find out the actual bandwidth you have. 48mbps is *not* slow. If you're paying for 48mbps, you should be getting close to 6MB/s download speeds. If you're not getting that speed, then there is a problem.

On a side note, I could rant about Comcast for days. 2 years of free service could not begin to compensate for the trouble I've had to go through with these people for the last 7 years. They're not getting another dime from me. I have FiOS internet available, but the TV hasn't been turned on yet. Can't wait for this to happen.

I've never really had any issues with comcast. Works fine for me.... Though I wish I were allowed to get satellite in my building.

Clarkson it's Comcast, they would never give you the advertised speeds. Imagine if they were a pharmaceutical company... "We've got the cure for cancer!*"

It's not that they don't give you the advertised speeds - it's just that those are peak speeds, when the subscriber usage is low. The quality of Comcast's product (internet speed, reliability and cable TV offerings) have rarely been a problem. Their customer service, however, is absolutely atrocious.

You should check out RCN. They provide internet service in DC. We recently moved to Southern MD and RCN is not there, otherwise we would have kept them. We had them for 7 1/2 years with few problems.

Verizon DSL is ok. On their website, Verizon is currently advertising $55/month for their top-of-the-line phone and internet bundle.
