even if he brings a 4-4.50 ERA, he'll help the team this year
and more importantly for DC baseball, the interest in the Nats hasn't been anywhere near this level since the '05 opener
And they are a decent team this year, but they are one year away from being the worst in baseball. I'd be happy with 3-4 wins from Strasburg this year. Having standing room only to watch this guy pitch his first inning of major league baseball is nuts. It's good for his first start to be against the Pirates.
True it would be good to be starting against the Pirates, there's a lot of hype for this kid and I don't really get excited about rookies in MLB until they prove themselves, but his record in the minors is stellar and having him pitch down there is just a waste.
Not sure how he will do, hope he can handle the pressure and his arm doesn't fly off his body in 2 weeks. What matters is the "W" so just get that. Anything else more than that is just pure gravy.
I work with John Lannan's cousin here in NYC, and he said that Strasburg is a real humble kid, and he relly tries to deflect all the hype thrown his way, that was his take on him during spring training and I would not think much has changed...but it's a little different being in florida during spring training, then a standing room only crowd in front of a prime time MLB Network broadcast.
I hope Bryce can make it up at 18, so he can be in the bigs at the same age as A-Rod and maybe we can have a guy who is clean break the HR record after A-Rod eventually passes Bonds.
