Default Maybe moving to Tacoma

Hey everyone,
I'm just another person looking to relocate to the Seattle area. I have a job interview in Tacoma that sounds somewhat promising. I was just wondering what areas I should take a look at as far as apartment living in the Tacoma area. I'm on a budget and I don't really care if I live in the newest place; as long as it's well-kept. I also don't mind a commute as I currently drive about 30-50 minutes one-way to work.

Also, I was just wondering if there were any Floridians out there that relocated to Washington and what their thoughts are. I'm in Florida now and am looking forward to getting out of the heat and escaping the crazy drivers (hopefully).

Thanks everyone for your help.

I don't know much about Tacoma (never lived there), but I do know it's much less expensive than Seattle, and it's changed for the better in the last few years.

There isn't as much to do as in Seattle (in terms of culture/entertainment/etc, but that's changing). During peak times, the commute between in Seattle and Tacoma is awful - but the good new is there's excellent express bus and train service between the cities.

I would look into North Tacoma or Puyallup. Tacoma for the most part is not a nice city but has it's pockets. Puyallup is a nice area and 15 minutes (freeway) east of Tacoma.

Bull.

Tacoma, for the most part, is a nice place to live, but has some rough pockets.

Fixed that for you.

Anyone that would choose to believe that a modern city of 200,000 plus is filled with criminals, miscreants and neer-do-wells who all choose to live together has no clue.

Maybe Tacoma is the new setting for "Escape From New York"...yeah, that's it.

I shouldn't care...I left (weather related, and a desire to move back to family and the area of my childhood), but after 28 years of living there, I hate to see the constant Tacoma bashing by people who should know better.

To the OP, do a search function on all the Tacoma threads to see what people other than the naysayers have to say.

I'm not in the habit of pimping my own posts, but go to http://www.city-data.com/forum/washi...eal-story.html

for a series of maps of places to begin your search for a suitable place to live in Tacoma.
