Here's a link where you can see the crime index for Washington State towns. I don't know how they calculate the index but it's probably as good as most thumbnail overviews. Use the zoom to get a close up of areas you are interested in. Towns are color coded according to their crime index.

How accurate is this? I am VERY surprised to see that Friday Harbor has such an extermely low safety rating (4 out 100?!?!?!?!? Only one point higher than Seattle!) and Point Roberts, too. 59/100??? These areas should be among some of the safest! One is on an unbridged island only accessible by ferry, private boat, and small plane, and the other on a peninsula only accessible by land via Canada, or again by private boat or small plane. Wow. Even Eastsound at 72/100 and Lopez Island at 76/100 seem high to me. I would think all these location would be at least in the 80s with petty theft the worst crime every 99 times out of 100. Maybe it's just me though, just seems these places should be rated as safer than that.

I also prefer a smaller town or outskirts of a big city like Seattle. I am hoping to get some insight since I've seen so many pros and cons to moving here on the Internet.

Thanks for the help
Just avoid Kent, Wa Federal way Wa, and Tacoma Wa. Then you will be fine and have piece.

Most places aren't up here aren't violent at all. Despite some of the recent incidents. That might change in 10-15 years depending on what happens in the next 12months. The election cycle is underway and their are some state killers in the voting box.

This link gives conflicting numbers. For instance, looking at the state map for crime, clicking on Carlsborg gives a crime number of 1 (really, really lousy). However, if you enter Carlsborg in the search window, clicking on the blown-up image of Carlsborg, gives a crime number of 98 (really, really great). Go figure.

I don't trust the site at all. Some programmer screwed up.
