Is there WIFI available at most Washington state parks? I tried looking but couldn't come up with anything.

I sure hope there's not. Sounds like a stupid idea to me.

I've never heard of it at state parks here. You'd need to go to a KOA or get Verizion to get service at most parks.

I haven't heard of anything either. I know that some other states have them, like Texas.

This sort of reminds me of Washington's ill-fated (and poorly implemented) WiFi program at highway rest areas.

Sonnenwende, not sure where you're from, but I'm going to guess it's from someplace else, or your experience with state parks is in other states.

Most state parks in WA and OR are pretty much just that...parks oriented around outdoor activities or historical sites. They usually are day use or are for camping.

They aren't like state parks in a lot of eastern states with resort hotels, nice cabins, swimming pools, tennis courts, etc.

I was really surprised when I went to my first state park in the east and it had what what was called a lodge, but was a hotel with game room, sauna, swimming pool, tennis courts, golf course, etc.

WA's are more, um, rustic and as such probably really have nothing like that. But, you can check the following link to help make sure...

I dunno about state parks, but the Wi-Fi at highway rest areas is a joke. It never worked...and I doubt it does now. I guess I can't whine though. I live in Texas now, where the advertised free Wi-Fi also doesn't work.

I asked the other day and I got the impression it's been taken down.

I think the State Park idea is a bad one. I mean isn't the idea to get away and leave the office at home?

The Rest Area idea however is a good idea.

It was taken down in 2008, I believe, after just two years of operation. The program didn't get any state subsidies and, besides not always working well (as noted above), was ridiculously expensive for the casual driver. The Wi-Fi cost something like $3.00 for 15 minutes of use and the program didn't get used enough to generate revenue for the contractor, I guess.

I agree that it was a good idea (including from a safety standpoint) and was sorry to see it die. although cell phones are becoming more and more capable in 2010...

Thanks. I was thinking at staying for a few weeks at one and didn't know if that was an offered amenity or not. It is in some other states.
