That area of Everett is just OK. Although there are a few nice neighborhoods. My MIL just moved from one of the not so nice neighborhoods in that ZIP code. It is close to everything (Malls, restaurants, Boeing, the beach, casino's, etc.) so you won't have to go very far. I don't know about the schools.

Everett is basically an old mill town that is slowly being devoured by Seattle. A lot of new projects, both office and residential in the pipeline. Be warned, the weather in Everett is considerably worse than Seattle, more storms, more wind, more rain. However, still more affordable than the eastside.

There's no getting away from it. Everett is sprawling and busy. My husband and son both work in Everett and one of my daughters lives there too. My husband and I like the fact that we can go to Everett for shopping but live elsewhere. It's all in your desires and what you like. Some folks love the proximity to their job, others like all the lifestyle choices near home. Others opt for the peace of the country.
Of course it has some restaurants that we like a lot - and tons that we've never tried. Schools appear to be OK but again, I'll give you the link I gave the member asking about schools in Bothell:
www.k12.wa.us/maps/sdmainmap.aspxw.w12 (broken link)
When you live on the I-5 corridor, then entertainment options are unlimited. It depends on what you like, but you can find most anything.

Assuming the lack of mortgage and car payments in Everett would save about 24K a year or more, you could live comfortably on the rest.

Absolutely. There are tons of apartments to rent in Everett and Lynnwood which abuts Everett. Since Everett has many different zip codes, you can find affordable housing everywhere within driving distance of your job. You won't be driving long distances as my husband and son do in over 60 miles round trip a day. The cost of living is high here but so are people's incomes. You should have plenty left over to maintain a very comfortable lifestyle. All the best with your move.

thnx for responses! We have a house in Everett that is paid for and we have been renting out for the last 10 yrs. ( I shudder to think about what condition
it's in) but we have 100K for renovations. They say you can fix anything if you throw enough money at it. We are currently in Fl. Can't wait to leave the heat and humidity. Went from 31 yrs in Alaska to Fl. Never got used to it.
As soon as we sell our home here ( we are ready to be patient) we are headed north! My son wants to attend the Police academy that I under stand is not far from Everett. I have been reading the Everett newspaper on
line every day to try to get a feel for what's happening there. Looking forward to the move!! When we get there I hope to take some master Gardener classes and work on the house and generally just chill. ( we are trying an early retirement)

Yep. Pretty much you can fix anything if you throw enough money at it and it sounds like you do. Alaska to Florida was pretty dramatic. Washington fits nicely in between. And at least you have a plan for retirement. All the best with rehabbing the house and settling into life in yet another state.
