I'd like to know, if anyone has any info on the best schools elem, middle and High Schools near the Ft. Lewis area? We might possibly be moving to Lacey, WA and I'd like to know what schools have the best academics, or athletics, cheerleading etc. I've been researching on the internet about Lacey, WA. Is that a kid friendly, nice and affordable place to raise your family? Low crime is a must! Or are there any other cities we could look into?

Thanks in advance

Hi Andrea1977,

Lacey is a great place to live, crimerates are low and the schoolsystem is good. You might also consider the Olympia or Yelm area for your relocation. I personally live in Yelm and know many people which chose Lacey and Olympia as their homes as well, my son attends school in Yelm, but i heard only good things about the Olympia and Lacey school district as well. Let me know if you need more information on Fort Lewis and the surrounding areas, i will be glad to help you out.

Andrea,

Lacey is a popular and family friendly place to live. Other popular areas within a close commute to Fort Lewis are Dupont, Yelm and Olympia. You can look up crime statistics and detailed information about each town right here at the city-data web site. If good schools are an important factor in your home search, I would recommend this website: Washington State Report Card
This website for Washington State schools lets you compare up to 3 schools side by side (top right hand button). You can find out student test score averages, student to teacher ratios, student demographics, etc.

What ages are your kids?

Sandy

Wow, thank you ladies. I'm mostly interested in Middle Schools and High Schools for my daughter.
She is a 7th grader right now and taking some HS credit classes, I would hate for her to loose those credits. I am interested in the programs at the schools in the area. I'm very interested in the cheerleading, dance team, or possibly Majorettes at the high schools in the area? Not sure if they have that in the HS's around there. We have a few here in FL. I have a son in 4th grade right now, he isn't in any special programs and I have a 3 year old that isn't involved in any schooling yet. What is there for kids to do after school in the lacey, olympia, yelm area? My son loves swim team, baseball, football. My girls love Baton Twirling, my oldest has been twirling for about 5 years now and my youngest is just starting. We would be interested in Dance too if there isn't any twirling in the area. I am so interested in the website you posted Sandy. Thank you for the info Christina...so glad there isn't alot of crime there. Are those cities slow-paced or fast-paced cities?

hi andrea,

here are the school districts websites
lacey, olympia http://www.nthurston.k12.wa.us/ntps/site/default.asp
yelm http://www.ycs.wednet.edu/ycs/site/default.asp
i would just contact them and ask them about their programs, i did that before we decided on getting settled here. They are all very nice and helpful. As for things to do after school, well there is too much to mention, you can check out www.southpugetkidsdirectory.com.
yelm is definitely more slow pace then olympia or lacey, but i would consider neither one fast paced. How you will feel about it will depend on what you are used to right now. We pcs`d from fort leonard wood missouri which is really in the middle of nowhere and we where overwhelmed the first couple of weeks. If you have any more questions, let me know.
