Hi,
We are very likely to move to Bremerton where I'd be station aboard the carrier. I was wondering if anyone has recommendations of Navy or community housing that would afford a short commute, comfortable living and a good elementary school.
Thanks

Hey There. My husband will be coming to Bangor and April and I was able to find a lot of rental options on Automated Housing Referral Network (AHRN.com) v7.0. Seems like the best areas for a commute for you would be Seabeck (this is where we found a home), Silverdale, Bremerton and Port Orchard. Poulsbo seems nice too but would be a longer commute for you. All of Central Kitsap and North Kitsap schools appear to be good.

militarybyowner.com did not have much available nor did craigslist. Check ahrn daily, even hourly, because there are constantly new listings.

oh, and did you apply for housing? We applied in Dec. and we are still #61 on the waitlist. Not holding my breath.

wow! I was fearing that Navy Housing was going to be back-logged. We never lived in housing but since my tour there would be for 2 years it makes the most sense. Do you have any information about the schools?
Thanks! and would you mind to keep intouch? this is an area where I've never been so the learning curve would be huge

I've also never been there so it is all new to me. go to greatschools.org to check out school reviews. My daughter will go to Cougar Valley, which is where most of the kids who live on Bangor go to school. From the few folks I've talked to it seems like a good school. Feel free to PM me anytime.

I am a former Bainbridge Island resident (too far away as a housing option for the OP).

The Kitsap County Library system can't be beat! We loved it.

Oh, welcome to the Pacific Northwest. There is good reason why many Navy retirees set down anchor here.
