Default Water view home in PT

Hi Nicolette.

Did you find a place in PT? I saw that you had some trouble finding one in the $350K range. Actually, that may be kind of tough. We moved up here from San Diego two years ago. We ended up building our house. We have a great water view and almost an acre of land, but our house is more in the $500k range. Lots of upgrades, though. You can certainly get more for your money up here.

I attached some pictures in case you want to take a look.

Hi KC in PT!
Your house is lovely! My husband and I are flying out on September 18th and we actually found two great realtors who are showing us a handful of things within our price range but they are more on the "outskirts" of PT etc...which is fine with us. We are viewing homes in Port Orchard, Port Ludlow, Sequim, and also Gig Harbor and surrounding areas. What do you think of those areas? How do you like PT compared to San Diego (not that you can really compare the two). Curious what made you re-locate and how you feel about the weather change. Thanks again for the pics!! Nicolette

One other thing KC...how was building your own home because we are definitely considering that as well. My husband would love to build our home, we both are very skilled in re-modeling, carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical etc...all we would need is to have the foundation in and have it framed and we could do all the finish work (to save money). How did you guys do it?? Would love to buy land!!

Default classy vacation home in PT

Hi Nicolette.

We were very pleased building our home. We had fantastic builders. We applied for our permits in November and moved into our home in August. For us, it was a great way to go. Since it's a small area, there aren't a lot of homes on the market. Building gives you what you want. If you want to check out our builders their website is Kelley Shields Inc..

For the areas you mentioned, it depends on what you like. Port Ludlow is a nice area, but it is a little far from services. The homes are newer. It has more of a resort feel. If you were going to take the area and compare it to California, I would say that Port Townsend is more like San Francisco, Port Ludlow is more like San Diego (except for the weather and a smaller scale of course). I don't care for Sequim, personally, since it lacks the charm found in Port Townsend. It is a little sunnier over there, though, so probably worth a look.Port Orchard and Gig Harbor are both very pretty. I've only been there once so I can't offer much info.

As far as comparing the area to San Diego, well, I lived in San Diego for almost 30 years. I have no desire to move back there. Too crowded and expensive.

The lifestyle is wonderful here. Only one drawback. The weather. Summers are lovely. They start in July and continue through most of September. But the winters are long, dark and dreary. There isn't a lot of rain, but Mother Nature likes to deliver it a drop at a time up here. Basically no sun between November and March.

That said, a lot of people take their vacations in the winter, which really helps. Another plus is the length of the days in the summer. It's sun up around 5 and sunset around 9:30. It's awesome.

Also, if you would like to stop by and see our house, I can give you more details. My phone number is 360-379-4722.

Hi KC,
Thank you for all of your information and offering to show us your home, how kind! Thank you also for the builder's website! (would you mind letting us know approximately how much it was per square foot to build, in case we decide to go that route?)
My husband and I leave for Seattle next Tuesday and we plan on driving to the coast to check out Westport, Aberdeen and as far south as Long Beach. Then we will drive up 101 around and up to Forks and head into Port Angeles, PT etc...and then head down to Gig Harbor....videotaping as we go along. Then we plan on coming back in October to visit specific areas we really liked once we have narrowed it down (and to play in the rain!!).
I'll let you know where we decide!
Yes, San Diego....pretty place but....too crowded, too expensive, too materialistic, too many people living in their "sunshine bubble"...looking forward to a change of scenery and quality people.
Fondly,
Nicole & Charlie

Have a safe trip!!

If you are going to be nearby on the 22nd, two different developers are having a "meet the architect" wine and cheese event (different developers that used the same architect). I just got a postcard in the mail for it ... might be interesting for someone like you that is in the market for oceanfront property. Plus they are nice people.

I'm not clear if I'm allowed to post these links, but these are the two developments:
Forrest Street Cottages
Cohasset Beach

Or you can PM me and I'll send you the info I have.

I hope you have a great trip!
