Hi everyone,

My husband and I will be moving to WA this summer and plan to live in Gig Harbor because it seems to be the best equal distance location between Bremerton Naval Base and Fort Lewis (JBLM). We aren't seeing much in the way of rental homes (single family and not apartments). Does anyone have any resources that you can suggest to help us in our quest? Is there any particular location in GH that would be preferred over another? Any suggestions of any other locations that may provide the equal commute for my husband and I with the amenities of a big town (i.e. shopping, grocery stores, good schools, low traffic, many local eateries)? I really appreciate your help.

Default Gig Harbor

Are you both going to be at Gig Harbor and JBLM or one of each. I have found some rentals online and with some of the rental sites like WPMsouth.com look at Craigslist too be careful of scams like asking for the deposit first. Tacoma is also a good choice. Gig Harbor has a few rentals and considering the bridge tolls if you do not have to Bremerton and can stay on closer to Tacoma Unversity Place, Fircrest and Lakewood are good alternatives.

I think Gig Harbor is a good choice for your situation. Traffic to Bremerton will not be bad (and it's a pretty drive at that), and because of the new bridge, traffic heading to Tacoma will not be hard either (except maybe on I5 to FL). What is your price range? Gig Harbor has very expensive homes right on the water, and there are less expensive areas further out of town and in-town. I wouldn't necessarily recommend one area over the other--they're all pretty nice.

The best way to find rentals in Gig Harbor is to drive around looking for rental signs. It's a small town, so pick the areas you like, and look for the signs. You might also try "The Gateway," the local newspaper, or "The Tacoma News Tribune." One rental company I would not recommend renting from is Compass Property Management.

In my opinion, Gig Harbor is really lacking in eateries and shopping. It's growing, but it needs more (if you want a great sandwich, try Suzanne's Delicatessen on Harborview Drive).

I attended middle and high school in Gig Harbor and I had good experiences. From what I have heard, Peninsula HS and Harbor Ridge Middle School have better reputations. Although, I attended Gig Harbor High School and I liked it.
