Smile Relocating...where should I live?

Hi, my husband and I are relocating from California due to a job in Everett, WA. We definitely were told not to live there because it's dead. We are younger, no kids, but would like to live in a quiet family area, not too crazy but not too quiet I guess. We are only going to be there for a couple of years so we plan to rent. Any ideas where is a good place for us to live besides Seattle? I heard Edmonds was good, Lynwood (but some say it's sorta not such a nice area), Kirkland, etc? Just any suggestions would be nice or anyone NOT to live! =) Thanks.

Depends on how far he wants to commute to Everett, but the closer you get to downtown, the more vibrant the communities (Fremont, Ballard, Greenlake), but just a longer commute. I would recommend Greenlake over Kirkland. Edmunds is more of a family area. Mukilteo might be a nice compromise. I would really recommend coming up here and visiting various neighborhoods. It's hard to get a feel for them without visiting. Here is a really quick primer:

My sister lives in Lynnwood, she loves it. It's ten or fifteen miles south of Everett.

Lynnwood has a lovely mall. Not sure what you're looking to spend; that will make the difference as to where.

If money is not a huge factor, Bothell is lovely; they have a lot of IT industry and a lot of young people. I like Bothell much better than Everett or Lynnwood, but that's my preference. Edmonds is nice as well.

I agree with the poster who said to come look; a quick trip up here to look around would be a great idea.

Default thanks

Thanks everyone. We are definitely going to go up there for a weekend. Just wanted to make sure we don't miss anything when we are up there. Also, we are on a tight schedule due to work and trips planned and me being an organizing freak, I like to plan ahead and see what route we will take when we get there, just map things out. But the suggestions are great!. Thanks!

We are going to rent because we may only be there for a year and we want a 2br/2ba...so max rent is $1300. I found some nice places called avalon communities and am looking on craiglist also.

I am also confused about the license and registration thing. Since we are just there temporarily, do we still need to transfer everything? I find that kinda strange since technically we are visitors and do not plan on taking anything from washington (health benefits, etc.) Thanks for your help!
