Congratulations forestpixey!! What a lovely area to heal from that crazy violation of your trust and monies!! Good for you and your husband for moving forward on the legal end. It may just feel crazier then heck right now but from my point of view with all that you two have gone through in such a short period of time, you are both just kickin' butt .

Someday too, I know you will be a big support to someone else, because of this experience, but for now what a great relief!! and

We love Lake Oswego, being here is worth all the CRAP we have gone through. We went and filed the papers at the court on Friday. Took them over to the sheriff so they can serve the guy. They said it won't go out for about 2 weeks... Then he has till the 1st of October to respond.. I will keep you posted.

Thank you for the good wishes.

Lawyer here: all I have to say is why on earth are you not "man" enough to stick up for yourself to begin with. If the guy follows you around, tell him you need a minute alone. If he is trying to enforce the agreement, you say this place is uninhabital and you leave. I mean really people. Obviously there are trashy people who will take advantage of whomever, but stick up for yourself a little bit.

Recently I have been on this site trying to get info on the Vancouver School district. We had rented a house in Vancouver and were about to move up from Ca. I want to thank all of you who responded with information. Here is what happened to my family and I. We left Wed Aug 1st for our new home in Vancouver. We arrived at the house Friday evening. We met the owner at the house, my husband and I were in shock of the condition. We didn't know what to do! Here we are 1300 miles from family and no where to go if we don't take this house... I tried to get a minute alone with my husband but everytime we walked away he followed.. We felt trapped and taken advantage of. We were stuck. So not knowing what to do or where to go we signed a rental agreement. After he finally left, we really took a better look at the place it was so disgusting. It was filthy dirty, had the oven torn out of the cabinet with the wires all exposed, and one put in the middle of the kitchen with an unusable stove top, filthy dirty. It had mold both inside and outside. Water damage all over. The smoke detectors were on a shelf in the closet. The windows in the garage door were broken and covered up with cardboard. The tolits didn't work. There was old rusty razor blades in the bathroom cabinets. Trash filled the fireplace. The roof was bowed and seperating from the headers and the eves. The washer and dryer looked as though they hadn't been cleaned in years.. Old fly paper traps hanging outside the back door. Mickey Moused light switches. Concrete chunks, piled sand on the side yard. I probably could go on!! Anyway, after he left we knew we weren't going to stay I couldn't have my children in that house. We called him to come back and bring us our check.. told him what we found and what we thought of the place.. He was in bed and didn't want to come.. After sometime we finally said we would let him meet us in Portland near friends the next day.. so I called him the next day to set something up. I told him I had cancelled payment on the check and all I needed was the deposit I sent him from Ca ($650.00). He said he needed to talk to someone and find out what he needed to do. He was suppose to call me back yesterday and has yet to do so... so we now are in the process of finding out what we can do legally... So now my family and I are without a home staying in Portland in motels, trying to find a place to live before our money runs out. We had a fully packed 26ft Uhaul with all of our things that we now had to put into storage (2 units) a expense we didn't expect.. So hopefully, we will find something soon. We are looking in the Portland area. We are both suppose to start working in the area soon

So my warning is. If you find a place to rent off the internet. Make sure you don't do it from long distance and make sure your not so trusting of others. I hate that he has put a dent in my trusting nature.

If you have any info that might help us please respond

Thank you all for listening to my rant.
This EXACT same thing happened to me when i came back to Seattle from SLC Utah. I put up 3 months rent, and a 400 dollar holding deposit before arriving. These folks had about $4000 of my money. THANKFULLY they refunded my 3 months rent after MUCH bitching, but held onto the 400 dollar holding deposit. There's nothing like driving 16 hours, to a hell hole in Everett that looks like it'd be better suited for junkies or squatters than renters. The images were VERY misleading, and we were told the bathroom was in the process of being "remodeled". (it looked like it had been attacked by a team of spider monkeys with caulk guns and hammers, as caulk filled near fist sized holes and there was black mold spotted throughout.... the toilet seat was wood and had an exposed nail where it'd been "put back together")

I checked craigslist a month ago and the place was still up for rent.. nobody would move into a DUMP like we found with "T-square property management" out of Woodinville.

The place was horrible. Much like what the OP described. We had to rent a hotel for 3 days while we found something else. Fortunately we ended up closer to Seattle, with an owner that cares what the place looks like!

No... you didn't keep us posted. Seems like the folks that say "I'll keep you posted" almost never do. It gets old.
