Lacey is a nice little town that is Olympia's next-door-neighbor. I can't speak to the quality of schools, but crime is low and housing is still relatively affordable (for the pacific northwest). I go there for shopping a lot (Costco and Home Depot) and I think the greater Olympia area is a great place for families. I would not have dreamed of living there when I was young and single, but for families its great. City-data has good info on the area!
Good luck! |

ditto to what bmsea said. All I'd add to it is that there's a significant number of military families living there, and it's a little more down to earth than Olympia. If you don't like Lacey (tends to get too crowded for my tastes) you have several other towns in the area to choose from (Yelm, Rainer, Tenino, Tumwater, etc).

Lacey is a town that has experienced tremendous growth in the last 10 years, and it continues to grow. It's a nice community with plenty of shopping, restaurants, its own farmers market, plenty of housing, fairly low crime, and lots of parks and sports facilities. It will make a great new home town.
