Info on the Chewelah and Valley Washington Areas
We are considering moving to the Chewelah area, and I am looking for any info on this area. Cost of housing, rent, weather, etc. I am having a hard time finding rental properties for this area. Any info anyone can provide would be great. I will also be looking for a job in the EMS field, as I am a Paramedic. If anyone has input on Paramedic jobs in this area that would be great as well.

Chewelah is a cute little town. Very scenic being in the valley like it is. It feels poor, but alive. There's not much there except for a Safeway, a Casino, and a bunch of little stores on the main drag. Skiing is nearby.
I will say you might find the area to be a little roughneck, but the people are really friendly.
There is a local newspaper in Chewelah but you might have to give them a call to get a copy (The Independent) for rentals. I'm sure there are rentals available in the area.
Rural Ambulance company? I came across that while checking myself for a newspaper.
Chewelah Rural Ambulance Service
If you like the outdoors, you should love Chewelah, but you most likely will have to make the commute to Spokane for work (45-50 minutes away).

You might also be able to find employment in Deer Park which wouldn't be quite as far as Spokane. There's a hospital in Deer Park and it's an incorporated town. Have you looked on craigslist for rentals?

I have been watching craigslist, but I have not see a lot of rentals for this area yet. I will keep watching and see what I can find. I kind of figured I might have to commute to Spokane for employment. Deerpark might be an option, as well. WendyK, any Ideas on the average cost of rent for this area, say for a 3B, 2 bath house, average size ? Thanks for your help.

I would think a home rental in Chewelah would be similar to Spokane - probably anywhere from $650-1000/month, depending on size & condition. I really am not familiar with Chewelah except for the few times I've been skiing at 49 degrees North. You might want to put your own ad on craigslist under "housing wanted" to see if you get any responses.

Chewelah Housing
I lived in Sandpoint for several years, and then a job move took us to Connecticut. We couldn't wait to get back to the Northwest, but Sandpoint was economically out of reach.
Chewelah was our answer. I think it's a great little community, but may be difficult to find work.
It now turns out that I'll be working in OH for the next few years, and we're going to sell our 20 acres. I have a very primitive listing started on owners.com. Moderator cut: link removed
I don't want to use this as a "sales pitch" thread, but if you want any more information about anything in the area, I'll be happy to talk with you.
Thanks,
Margie
