Burlington,WA
Hello
My husband and I are moving to Burlington from Coleville,CA. Never been to this side of Washington. Was wondering if anyone lives there or has visited and can tell me a little about the area.
Thank you
Tricia

There are three pictures on the City-Data page for Burlington. Have you seen those, Tricia? They're not really showing too much but at least they'll give you an idea of the surrounding terrain.

Actually, I just noticed that the city of Burlington's website has some nice pictures scattered throughout their website too:
City Of Burlington
One of my college buddies was from Burlington an he couldn't wait to get out but that's the attitude of a lot of young people just out of high school who live in a small town. And this of course was decades ago when Burlington was a much smaller place. I went to his house a few times during those college days and thought the town was nice. For me, I'd never choose a western Washington town because of the climate.

Tricia, just across the Skagit River is Mount Vernon which is larger than Burlington (about 3X larger according to the demographic pages...) I can say that MV is a relatively quiet and very nice place to live.
Not sure of what all you want to know. 'Rocco said, " For me, I'd never choose a western Washington town because of the climate." And I say the great climate is *why* I choose a western Washington town!
I mentioned Mount Vernon because there are more housing choices, simply because it's so much larger. But when I say larger....bear in mind I'm meaning 25,000-30,000 pop. which is pretty small compared to developed cities.
Any of this help? Feel free to PM me. (meaning Private Message: I noticed you're new here, so you may not have seen the PM yet.) Click on my handle and you can choose PM from the list.

Thank you so much everyone. I'm interested in what the climate is like out there. Is it a small city/town or more of a farm country type town. I would just like to know what to expect. I'm in Coleville,CA right now. Population 100 lol. It's all farms and small town people. Hoping for a place that is not so dry and has the 4 seasons. I have a sister in Kelso,WA and was able to visit there several times and I loved it. Hoping Burlington is just as nice.

The climate won't be that different than that of Kelso.
However, Coleville is pretty isolated. I've been through there; it's on Hwy 395, just north of Yosemite, right? I remember going through there on my way to Carson City. Yes, Coleville is small, rural, and isolated.
Burlington, on the other hand, may no longer be considered rural anymore and is located right on the I-5 corridor so isn't considered isolated either. And as Macrina has said, could be considered part of the greater Mt. Vernon area because their boundaries do abut each other. Burlington is also the junction to Hwy 20 going over the North Cascades Highway so again, not isolated at all in that there is plenty of traffic through the area going to Sedro-Woolley and to points further out on the North Cascades Highway.
In my own opinion, yes, I think Burlington/Mt. Vernon area is nicer than the Kelso/Longview area but that's only MY opinion.
Keep asking questions and hopefully you'll get a variety of responses for you to weigh.

Yes, we are right on 395 at the Base Housing. Do you know how bad the traffic is on I-5 in the morning heading towards Everett?

Tricia, Hi
As you can see, I live in Mount Vernon which is a twin city to Burlington. We shop in both towns. The Skagit River divides them and we go back and forth. Burlington is somewhat older and less developed then Mount Vernon but it's still a very nice place to live. The Cascade Mall is located in Burlington as well as CostCo and the new Burlington Crossings strip mall. There are lots of neat stores in the area. The towns are surrounded by farmland and when you get to the hill on I-5 leading down to the Skagit Valley, you have such a sense of the beauty of the area and you know that you're out of the rat-race so to speak and in a better place.
We always breathe a sigh of relief and know we're home. We've lived all over the world (and all over the U.S.) and think this is one of the nicest places that we've ever lived, i.e. the Pacific Northwest. IMO.
Climate-wise, we're into winter now (of course) and we've had our dusting of snow. Not sure if there's more to come, but when it does, it's definitely bearable. We lived in Wisconsin. Should I say more!
Summers can be hot but not for weeks at a time. Last summer was very mild. It depends.
We do get rain but that's to be expected in Western Washington. And we get our cloudy days. For me, it's OK but I know that it's not for everyone. Let me know if you want me to be more specific about anything. And Welcome in advance!
