From an outsider looking in, Anacortes seems like a nice town. Is it a good place to raise children? I know that there are a lot of retirees, but would you recommend it to families with school aged kids? What is the feeling towards outsiders moving in? Thank you for any advice.

I have never lived there, but I know a few families that have. They loved it, and the town itself is beautiful.

Thank you, Sobefobik. That is encouraging. We love kayaking and hiking, so it looks like a good fit for us.

Yes, it's a great area for kayaking and hiking! What's nice about the Puget Sound is that you're close to the mountains and skiing, the ocean, water activities, and then you just hope over to the other side of the mountains for a drier feel. And Seattle is very close for all your major shopping. I think you'll like Anacortes.
